The second biggest competition in world football next to the World Cup, the Euros, provided an opportunity for social media to test its limits once again. As more sports fans sign on to twitter, the record for the most tweets per second continues to be broken. At the moment Juan Mata scored Spain's 4th goal driving the nail into the nail that was already in the Italian coffin, twitter exploded with 15,358 tweets per second. Furthermore, Lebron James' congratulatory tweet to Spain reached 8.3M people after being retweeted almost 10,000 times. The total number of tweets using '#Euro2012' or 'Euro 2012' is an impressive 11.9M.
